It is now Christmas Eve, Eve and I can hardly believe it. This month has flown by! Tomorrow is the day we will be lighting our final advent candle, the candle for Christ. Christmas means so much, it is the time that God gave us so many gifts that were all wrapped up into one. We’ve been gifted hope, peace, joy and love all wrapped up in one sweet little bundle that was a baby boy named Emmanuel.
God sent His son, the one known as Prince of Peace, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The Mighty Counselor, Son of God and Son of Man, the Lion of Judah, the Lamb of God! This one little boy who came so humbly that would forever change everything. Christmas is such a huge celebration today. Traditions abound, businesses close down, families flood church doors, all to celebrate the birth of a baby. Gifts are given, songs are sung, and kindness fills the air. But, the truth is, Christmas would be nothing without Easter.
Christmas is the beginning of what will be God’s great victory. Jesus was born on Christmas morning and we celebrate that because it is wonderful, but it’s wonderful because of what Jesus does for us when he’s older. Jesus grows up and He fulfills God’s plan. He pays the price for every sin that all of mankind, has ever done and ever will do. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Jesus died so that we don’t have to. He died so that we can have life. This is the true celebration! The little baby that came Christmas morning became the Savior of the World. He hung on the cross and cried out, “It is finished.” Then three days later he left death in the grave, he came out of the tomb and is now living with God waiting to come back again.
Christmas is so exciting and so wonderful, it is full of hope and promise that Easter will come. But then we can take it even further. He’s coming back again. Jesus will return, he will wipe every tear, there will be a new heaven and a new earth. Everything will be made right with God. I hope and pray that you all have a very Merry Christmas this year. I know it won’t look the same as years past. Gatherings will be smaller, Church will be on tv, families may be apart. But celebrate knowing that on this day, a King was born. Celebrate knowing that Easter is right around the corner. Celebrate with expectant hope for Jesus’ return. Celebrate knowing that even if your Christmas feels small and humble, it’s ok, because so was that first Christmas day. Celebrate the great victory that God has accomplished through that tiny baby boy!
